Movement Verbs as Discourse Markers in Spanish: The Case of Vamos in the City of Granada, Spain

The discourse marker vamos is the first-person present indicative plural of verb ir (“to go”) and acts as a guide throughout discourse. We studied its use in PRESEEA corpus Granada, analyzing 54 interviews rescuing 270 occurrences vamos. Mainly, we detected that was higher speech people with only primary education, while among university educated represented 27% cases. It also used more frequently by young people, particularly females, although age found to be influential because intrinsic original value form, which speakers are integrated form part group. Among pragmatic values reformulator than 60% cases; 22% structurer helps continue conclude discourse; approximately 13% when modalizer convey speaker’s attitude.
